Fasteners
STEM-3DMA-4: Demonstrate an understanding for fasteners and the correct application in engineering graphics and product design.
Standard fasteners are very important in any engineering project that someone is creating. These fasteners hold each component of the object together. Fasteners are able to enhance the connectivity and how well each part holds together of each component within the object. Fasteners are incorporated within many different industries throughout the world. There is a machine screw that is mainly used inside machines and for putting together different machines we use in our everyday life like a refrigerator. A wooden screw are the ones that make up chairs and stools and combine the components of each together. Aside from screws, there are nuts and blots and washers that are able to do the same function as a screw could. A flat washer is able to keep the tooth washers from separating between the components of the object. Then the nuts, like the heavy hex, hex, square, slotted, and the prevailing torque. These each have different function or use inside of the object. The hexes and the square are able to keep the fasteners from coming off of the object. The slotted are able to prevent the fasteners from loosing. The torque are used to regulate the temperature throughout the object to make sure it is all the same temp. In my elbow engine the screws were put in place to keep the parts from coming apart while in the use. In the future I hope to learn more about the different types of screws and bolts that keep the objects together and if there are any ones that have a different purpose than the screws we already know of.
